Sam Ong
Make-up Artist
Winner 'Make-up Artist of the Year', Elle Awards 2007
Sam Ong went straight into the retail after he completed his National Service. "I wasn't sure and I guess, I wasn't really thinking about what I wanted to do then.
Sam got acquainted with celebrity hairstylist, David Gan, when he was working at Club 21. One day, David asked he why' he'd never thought of picking up a skill, and he suggested that Sam learn to do make-up – this was six years ago.
Sam gave it some serious thought and promptly decided to make a go at the career change. "I took make-up lessons at Cosmoprof and that was the start of my new career!"
There was no doubt in Sam's mind that Cosmoprof was the obvious choice to start his foundation in the make-up industry. "I chose to train with Cosmoprof Beauty, Spa and Make-up Academy for their renowned high industry standards – I have never looked back since." As Singapore's most established and popular make-up institute, Sam knew he would be assured of instant recognition when he graduated with Cosmoprof's Make-up Diploma.
Sam was quoted in Elle magazine, April 2007, saying: ''I used to like Chinese Opera when I was little.'' That's what inspired the 34-year-old to sign up at the Cosmoprof Academy: Make-up, Aesthetics and Spa. It's been no turning back for Ong and he has since been able to work with celebrities such as Jeanette Aw, Kym Ng and even Taiwanese girl group, S.H.E.
Six years down the road, Sam now has an impressive portfolio behind him. Together graduate Andy Lee, Sam is currently on the board contributors for Mediacorp's Style Magazine. He has dolled up famous faces such as those of celebrities Denise Keller, Jacelyn Tay, Wong Li Lin, Ivy Lee and Vivian Lai, just to name a few.
